Chapter Meeting June 16th at Tennessee
Smokies Ballpark
The second meeting of the Rice-Russell Tennessee SABR chapter will be held at
Smokies Park in Kodak, Tennessee on Saturday, June 16 at 2 p.m. Smokies Park is
the home of the Tennessee Smokies, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.
Four members will give presentations on their research:
Peggy Gripshover will share her progress on a biography of Charles H. Weegham,
owner of the Chicago Cubs and builder of Wrigley Field.
David Jenkins will discuss his all-time Chattanooga Lookouts database project.
Kevin McCann will share photos and stories of the Kitty League, a Class D minor
league that fielded teams in Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Tennessee
from 1903 to 1955.
Skip Nipper will discuss his new book Baseball in Nashville.
Our guest speaker will be Mick Gillespie, the voice of the Tennessee Smokies.
Mr. Gillespie will share his experiences as a play-by-play broadcaster in the
minor leagues.
After the meeting, members and guests are invited to stay for a game at Smokies
Park. The Smokies will take on the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx at 7:15 p.m. The Jaxx
are the Double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. A field level seat with a
ballpark meal (hot dog, chips, and soft drink) is $13. (Please pay when you
arrive for the meeting.)
